Simon Landy

Policy Group Lead — Higher Education Fees

Thailand

Leads the BOVF policy work in coming up with a sensible solution to the current very bad system which on paper, and at least for some British students applying from overseas, results in them being forced to pay extortionate fees but also in reality is allowing a significant majority of overseas students to qualify as home fee students. This costs the government a significant amount of subsidy to which it is currently oblivious of.  In practice many of the overseas students that manage to obtain home fee status end up not being able to study the courses they prefer or at universities that they prefer and which they are academically qualified to attend.

Could you coordinate a branch?

Several countries have no coordinator yet. The commitment is smaller than people expect — most branches began with one person willing to answer emails and organise an occasional meeting.
