About BOVF
Who we are and what we are for
Our campaign group was formed in 2024, spurred by the pivotal moment when lifelong voting rights were restored to British citizens living overseas. This was an important step forward for democracy, but there is still much more to be done.
Our group is entirely volunteer-run. We work to bring the challenges facing overseas voters to the attention of decision-makers, campaign for practical improvements to the voting process, and help ensure that British citizens living overseas can exercise their democratic rights effectively.
Our aim is simple: to make votes count, wherever in the world British citizens live.
Purpose
Why the Forum exists
Because a group that cannot vote is a group whose problems can be deferred indefinitely — and because that has just changed.
Strategy
Vision, Mission and Paradigm
What we are trying to bring about, what we do about it, and the change of assumption that everything else depends on.
Structure
Policy groups
One group per key issue, each working to a deliberately awkward brief: propose something that fixes the problem and that a UK politician could defend in public.
People
Who we are
Trustees, policy group leads and country coordinators. Everyone here is a volunteer; nobody is paid.
Record
Achievements
A selected timeline. The Forum was founded in 2023 and has been meeting parliamentarians since autumn 2024.
